NGL Season starts soon!
by posted 03/01/2010

Young Lady Laxers & Parents,

Welcome to the 2010 Lacrosse Season!

We have already had a great beginning with 93 girls currently registered for lacrosse this spring, a successful equipment/uniform night, and a wonderful grant receipt from the Alice Eaton Fund for new goals/equipment!  In case you didn't know, our board has been busy working on the establishment of our organization and in a short 7 months we have already made it to official non-profit status!  So that is the wonderful news about our group and welcome to "our tribe".  (more to come on that)

I know many of you are wondering about the season so here is a short synopsis.  We will be starting practices 30 March pending field conditions - earlier if I get approval from the school.  Practices will be either Teusday/Wednesday from 6:00pm to 7:30pm and Saturday mornings(times to be announced).  Games are being scheduled now by the League and we should have a final schedule by the end of March.  They will Start April 11th.

Very soon you should receive an introductory email from your coaches.  Please be aware that this is our primary mode of communication so if weather is bad, an email notice of cancellation will be made NLT 1 hour before practice.  Should if be cancelled after that, a notice may go out(though we try not to make late decisions) and someone will be at the field for those last minute notices.

On equipment, please have goggles, colored mouthguard, and a lacrosse stick(we have some to borrow temporarily).  Equipment can be purchased at Imagination Sports(Mention NGL for a 10% discount) in Clinton or other stores of choice.

Lacrosse is a running game so for the older girls in 5th grade or higher, you may want to get a few runs in before we start so running the field won't be so painful, besides it's nice to show up and run laps around your buddies!

Soon we will send out a notice on our annual meeting once time and location are confirmed so please consider attending and become familiar as well as provide feedback and constructive suggestions - See you soon!

Sticks UP!

Spring Lacrosse Registration is OPEN!
by posted 10/10/2009

Spring Lacrosse registration is open for all girl's in grades 1-8!

Nashoba Girls Lacrosse is for 1st through 8th graders predominately in the towns of Stow, Bolton, and Lancaster.  We do allow girls from other towns to join, however priority placement to teams if given to town residents purely due to the fact that the District and local towns subsidize use of fields for residents.  All girls are welcome!

The spring season is our traditional season and the girls all compete in the Mass Bay Girls Lacrosse League with teams from surrounding areas on Sunday afternoons.  The program is designed to initiate new girls to the game of women's lacrosse while offering the opportunity for experienced girls to develop new skills and compete with other girls at a town competitive level.

Practices are once during the week, either Tuesday or Wednesday from 6:00 to 7:30 and Saturdays somewhere from 8:30 to 11:00, depending on the team with which your daughter is playing.  Spring practices are at Nashoba Regional HS on Rt 117 in Bolton on the athletic fields to the back left.

You may register on our website by clicking on the Registration tab at the left. Please remember to send in your payment as your registraion is not complete till it is recieved.  Registrations after Jan 29th will be assessed a late fee and placed on a waiting list - We are forced to early register because league registration is due the same day so we must know the the number and size of our teams.  Registration payment covers NGL operational costs, league membership, US Lacrosse registration & insurance, and team registration in the Jamboree at the end of the season.

We will be holding an equipment in January and will not notify all registered players of the date & time when it is announced  Equipment requirements may be found on the Philosophy tab..

Thank You,

The Nashoba Girl's Lacrosse Board

The Girls Game
by posted 10/10/2009

The focus of the game is the same as the boys as the object is to send a ball through the goal by means of the racket, but whereas boys resort to strength & more bodily force, the girls depend predominately on skill which defines women's lacrosse along with strength, athleticism, and speed.  The girls stick is much tighter and a smaller pocket which requires more skill with catching/throwing and stronger cradling while on the run.  Girls wear only goggles(eye safety) and checking is limited to stick contact only and begins at the 7/8th grade level, there is no checking at the 5/6th grade level and below.  We have structured the program to offer your daughter developmental skills which will follow into the girls game and at every step level increase demands more skill & speed - leading them very well into higher levels of play at high school and select teams too.

Equipment:
Required = Girls lax stick (different from the boys), goggles, and non-clear mouthguard.  Sticks start at @ $50 and goggles start at $40.  We do have an equipment night where total equipment starter packages were offered at $95.  We do have girls selling used sticks if interested.
